Fairy Tale Time in Accessibility - Issue 7-2026
Many people in charge have already realized that extensions, so-called accessibility overlays, don't automatically make websites accessible as promised. Unfortunately, there are still enough organizations that fall for these false promises.
Overlay providers aren't sitting idly by: For example, there are now automated accessibility features for inaccessible PDFs and protection against legal warnings due to lack of accessibility. There are virtually no limits to the imagination when developing new products.
As expected, these are mostly empty promises. Our tip: Even if you never usually seek advice, consult a neutral accessibility expert before committing to such solutions. The contract is quickly signed, but getting rid of the tools can be difficult. At the very least, you should have a professional review the terms and conditions. It usually says the opposite of what is promised in the sales pitch.
